How Pillion Link is Solving the Solo Rider Problem

February 17, 2026

At HubPeople we often say that the best niche dating brands are not just about finding a date. They are about shared identity. Pillion Link is the perfect proof of concept. Born from a genuine passion for motorcycling and powered by the HubPeople platform, it solves a unique problem for the community by filling the empty passenger seat.

Here is how an idea sparked at our conference in Belfast turned into a growing community for motorcycle enthusiasts.

From Belfast to the Open Road

The concept for Pillion Link began to take shape shortly after our Partner Conference in Belfast last summer. Inspired by the energy and the focus on building meaningful communities,  Founder Steve decided to turn a personal observation into a business. As a lifelong rider Steve knew that for many motorcycling is more than a hobby. It is a lifestyle. But he also knew there was a gap in the market.

“The Pillion Link idea came about primarily because Motorcyclists are not really catered for in the current dating climate,” Steve explains. “Sharing your hobby with a partner is probably the major driver, as many motorcyclists ride solo because their wives or girlfriends do not ride.”

The lightbulb moment happened during Dave Day which was a massive gathering celebrating Dave Myers of the Hairy Bikers.

“The Facebook group had a number of requests from people, predominantly women, who were asking if anyone had a spare pillion seat. That’s pretty much where the idea for Pillion Link came from.”

Turning Vision into a Platform

Steve understood the psychology of the pillion rider. It is not just about sitting on the back of a bike. It is an intimate and thrilling experience. Picture cruising through the wild beauty of northern Scotland holding onto someone you trust and feeling the freedom of the road. The goal was to capture that specific feeling of connection adventure and chemistry wrapped into one.

When Steve approached HubPeople he had the vision and the community credibility. Our role was to provide the infrastructure to scale it. We worked closely with Steve to ensure the platform did not just look like a generic dating site but felt like a home for bikers. This included defining the brand specifically around the Pillion dynamic creating a custom signup flow that speaks the language of the user instantly and adding dedicated motorcycle themed areas for members to discuss rides gear and routes rather than just browsing profiles.

It’s Not Just About Dating

One of the most interesting findings since the launch has been the user intent. While Pillion Link is a dating site the community aspect is driving growth.

“We’ve learned, as we originally thought, that being a pillion is not always driven by the desire for a relationship,” says Steve. “In fact, only 30% of our Facebook Group are seeking ‘something else’ Most just want friendship and the thrill of the ride.”

This insight validates the community first approach. By allowing users to connect for platonic rides the platform casts a wider net which often leads to romantic connections naturally over time. Steve’s own life reflects this joy of shared experience.

“I have been riding motorbikes or scooters since I was a kid. After nearly 30 Years of marriage, riding solo, my wife started to join me last year. She really enjoys it, proving that pillion riding is indeed a great thing to share.”

The Road Ahead

Pillion Link proves that when you combine a passionate founder with a robust platform niche dating works. The brand is seeing strong early traction with registrations and subscription renewals trending upward alongside high engagement in the 1.1k member Facebook group.

Steve and the team are now focused on expanding their content strategy with the upcoming Pillion Diaries Podcast and new SEO initiatives to drive organic growth. While the UK trial is the current focus the model is easily scalable to motorcycle communities worldwide showing that by listening to what users actually want Steve is building something that lasts.
